  • Lamb mince = 750 grams ( you can also use beef)
  • Red onions (chopped) = 2 
  • Eggplants = 6 
  • Potatoes (optional) = 5 
  • Garlic (chopped) = 2 cloves 
  • Chopped tomatoes = 400 grams
  • vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Tomato paste = 2 tbsp
  • Sugar = 1 tsp
  • Black pepper (freshly ground)
  • Bay leaf = 1 
  • Cinnamon or one cinnamon stick = 1 pinch
  • Red wine = 1 Cup 
  • Sea salt = 1 pinch
  • Olive oil = 1/4 cup

Ingredients for Bechamel Sauce

  • Milk = 900ml
  • Egg yolks = 2 
  • Flour = 120 grams
  • Nutmeg = 1 pinch
  • Butter = 120 grams
  • Kefalotyri = 100 grams (any hard cheese)
  • Salt (to taste)

Mary Berry Lamb Moussaka Easy Recipe

Step 1

Take a fry-pan and add olive oil (2 tbsp) then add sliced eggplants and potatoes, brown them and take a aside.

Step 2

Now make meat sauce, cook lamb mince, shallots, garlic and tomato paste in olive oil (remaining), add tomatoes and wine and simmer it for 10 to 15 minutes and reduce liquids.

Step 3

For making béchamel melt butter and add flour, whisking in warm milk. Now stir egg yolks with nutmeg and Parmesan.

Step 4

Take an oven dish add make layers of eggplants and potatoes mixture, meat sauce and béchamel on the top.

Step 5

Bake at 350 °F for 60 minutes until top golden brown and cheesy. Your dish is ready Enjoy.
